Today Monday, 18th April, 2016 stands out in the story of the Lambo family as their Late Patriarch, Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo OFR was reburied inside the premises of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, Ogun State, SW, Nigeria where he served as the pioneer Chief Medical Director, formerly designated “Superintendent”, from 1954 - 1963.
A brief ceremony which was attended by his children, David, Richard and Roger hosted dignitaries like the former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, Bashorun ‘Doja Adewolu MFR, Provost and Medical Director of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Dr. Akinwande Akinhanmi and members of the hospital Top Management Committee.
The Late Professor had to be reburied in the hospital premises after the Federal Government of Nigeria approved the request of his family to that effect. This request was necessitated by the road expansion drive of the Ogun State government which was to affect the former grave site.
He was described as a man of great value, a Professor of Professors and the first West African and Nigerian to be trained by the West in psychiatry. He once served as a Deputy Director General of the World Health Organisation.
For many, Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo can ‘never die’ as his legacies are still very much ‘alive’.
